To help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Unites States of America, Steve (N. Irish) and Chizuko (Japanese) will again host the annual 4th July ECSA meeting at Cocoa Village Marina (CVM).

The marina is at 90 Delannoy Avenue, Cocoa, Fl 32922 and the gathering will be held upstairs in the marina’s clubhouse. The fire will be started using overly appropriate amounts of flammable materials at 4pm, so please bring the dead animal of your choice for the BBQ coals, along with strange recipes that you might want to try out on your fellow sailors.

As always, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra will be playing their “Symphony under the Stars” in the Cocoa Village Riverfront park, which is about 5 minutes walk from the marina. This will be starting at 8pm and those that wish to attend might like to bring some camp chairs to sit on. Fireworks over the Indian River will start at 9:15pm and can be viewed from the East Dock or the clubhouse balcony.

Unfortunately, options to attend this function by boat this year are limited by the dredging operation currently underway in the marina’s west dock. It was originally hoped that this operation would be completed by the end of June, but after speaking with Dockmaster Ken Lunden this morning, it looks as though the operation might be running into July, and at the moment there will be no transient slips available for the July 4th weekend. You can try calling at the last minute (Ken Lunden: 321 626 2569) to see if this situation has changed, but at the moment Im told that is highly unlikely. In addition, in the last few years we have used Cheshire’s stern as a dinghy dock for members who wish to anchor out in the deep water on the starboard side of the channel as you approach the marina. Unfortunately, Cheshire is currently out of her West Dock slip and squeezed stern first into a slip next to a large powerboat, such that it may not be possible to fit a dinghy between the two vessels. If the dredging does get finished early I might be able to move her back so that the option becomes available. Check with me if you’re thinking of trying that.

Other than that, Chiz and I hope to see you’all on the 4th for the 250th celebration of the war of the rebellion.

Cheers, Steve and Chiz
